You know all those little soaps and shampoos and conditioners and lotions you bring home from hotels and put in your bathroom for guests to use, but somehow they never do? Here's what to do with them:
Go to www.anysoldier.com. Read the letters from squad leaders and individuals, asking for letters from home (imagine being over there in all that hell, and not getting any mail!) and detailing supplies they want and need but don't have, which are all in those little bottles in your bathroom.
Pick a soldier, a sailor, an airman, a Marine, and send him/her all that stuff you're not using. Plus the paperback mystery novels clogging your shelves, that you'll never read again but those folks would devour during the long waits between missions/attacks. You might stop at Costco or Sam's Club and load up on Q-tips, too; for some reason, they all want Q-tips. And don't forget the Babywipes! Healthy snacks are in high demand, too--trail mix, nuts, etc.
Start collecting now, but (this will surprise you) don't mail for the holidays (except maybe letters)--they'll be swamped with donations during the holidays. Wait till the end of January or early February, when it slows down and they start thinking we've forgotten them.
Then show them we haven't.
And keep it up. They're going to be there for a long, long time.
