Normally, at this time of day, at this time of year, it's over 100 degrees here, on its way to at least 108, often much higher. Lately, we've been treated to humidity, too, which the weathercasters refer to as "the monsoon effect" as if Palm Springs had always been interchangeable with Bangkok. (Of course, it's the Greenhouse, but nobody's copping to it.)
Today, however, at almost 9:30 AM, we haven't yet reached 80 degrees. I have the windows open. The ceiling fan twirls on its Leisurely setting, just doing an exchange, gently bringing the outside inside--unthinkable as recently as yesterday. The air conditioning is not on. At all. No intermittent rumbling blast will derail* my train of thought.
The world will not try to incinerate me today. The temperature will remain in double digits (just barely: 97 the predicted high). Oh blessed release. I feel every pore relaxing, my mind clearing, new categories of possibility opening themselves all over the place--I could dig in the garden! go for a walk! just sit outside without wishing I wasn't!
. . . See ya!

Heard on the local news the other night: "Deliberate attempts to siderail US peace efforts"--new hybrid of "sidetrack" and "derail," or just plain stupid?
I vote for "stupid."
